The fitting of the Stocks and Sweeps

Brian Holdstock reported on 21st October 2005, on behalf of the Windmill Hill Windmill Trust, that the millwrights were planning hang the Sweeps soon.

The plan was to bring the Sweeps to site and then to wait for a "window in the weather" to hang them.

Work began on Thursday 24th November.

The first Stock was fitted that day, however problems arose with the fitting of the second Stock.

It would appear that the Stock design did not take account of the taper within the Canister and, as a result, the second Stock was not fitted until the following Monday.

The first of the Sweeps was fitted on November 29th.

By 2nd December all four Sweeps were in place.
